Profile: Tina Williams Brewer

Tina Williams Brewer is an American quilting artist, recognized for story quilts about African American history. Brewer was born in Huntington, West Virginia. She graduated from the Columbus College of Art and Design. Brewer started in interior design and pottery, but moved to quilting in 1986, feeling it was more compatible with motherhood. She is currently based in Pittsburgh, PA and has served on the boards of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh and Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. Oct. 4, 1864: New Orleans Tribune Launched

Beginning October 4, 1864 the New Orleans Tribune was published daily in French and English by Dr. Louis Charles Roudanez (June 12, 1823 – March 11, 1890). The newspaper’s editorials called for full suffrage, civil rights for all, free public education for all, and carried on a war against President Andrew Johnson’s policies by sending copies of the Tribune to every member of the U.S. Congress on a regular basis. Elizabeth (Lizzie) Harriet Stevens Gray Bowser was an American artisan, businesswoman, and philanthropist. She was active in the mid-19th century flourishing of voluntary associations in Philadelphia, as a supplier of decorative goods for organization members and as a contributor to charitable organizations.
